Frequently Asked Questions
What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a form of medicine that has been practiced for thousands of years. It involves the insertion of very fine, sterile needles into specific points on the body to stimulate the body’s natural healing response, improve circulation, and restore balance.
Does acupuncture hurt?
Most people are surprised by how comfortable acupuncture feels. The needles are thin and often not felt at all, or they create a mild tingling, warmth, or heaviness that passes quickly. Many patients find treatments deeply relaxing.
What conditions can acupuncture help with?
Perhaps a better question is, “What doesn’t acupuncture help with?”
Classical acupuncture is a complete medical system that supports the whole body — physical, emotional, and mental. Because it works by restoring balance rather than chasing symptoms, it can benefit a wide range of concerns, from pain and stress to digestion, sleep, hormones, immunity, and overall wellbeing. However, this is not an emergency room and I will refer any patient out who needs western medical emergency care.
Is acupuncture safe?
Yes. When performed by a licensed practitioner, acupuncture is extremely safe. We use only single-use, sterile, disposable needles, and all treatments follow national safety standards.

Can I use my FSA or HSA account to pay for services?
Yes, FSA and HSA accounts can be used to pay for acupuncture.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions varies based on your health goals and the condition being treated. Acute issues may improve in a few visits, while chronic conditions may require a series of treatments for lasting results. Your practitioner will create a personalized plan after your first visit.
What happens at my first appointment?
Your first visit includes a detailed conversation about your health history, symptoms, and goals. We’ll then create a treatment plan, answer your questions, and begin acupuncture (with your consent). Many people leave their first session feeling relaxed and more balanced.
What should I do before and after treatment?
Before: Eat a light meal, avoid excessive caffeine, and wear loose clothing.
After: Drink water, rest if possible, and notice how your body feels. Healing may continue for several days so it’s important to follow any lifestyle or dietary recommendations your practitioner suggests.
Do you take insurance?
Currently, I am set up to take VA with a pre-authorization. Please reach out to your VA physician and let them know yo’d like to come in for acupuncture.
What if I’m afraid of needles?
You’re not alone! Many patients start out nervous. The needles are much finer than those used for shots, and we’ll go at your pace. Acupuncture feels more like an art of touch than getting your blood drawn.
